An Update on CSCS and Highways Passport

The Highways Passport Steering Group

Following the email on Monday 18th regarding CSCS changing their licence agreement, we are issuing further clarification. There are three things we want all contractors to understand:

  1. You will still be able to log CSCS data in the Highways Passport system. What is changing is that without procuring the new API licence from CSCS, you will no longer be able to validate CSCS card data automaticallyin the Highways Passport system. Our recommendation therefore is that you use the CITB Online Card Checker (which can be accessed here) to verify CSCS and partner scheme cards prior to adding them to your workers’ records in the system. This approach is completely free and means you will only need to verify a worker record once rather than every time they visit a new site.
  2. These changes do not in any way affect our expectations around use of Highways Passport or our commitment to expanding its usage (you can review our agreed expectations here). National Highways continues to endorse and encourage all organisations to use Highways Passport as before.
  3. National Highways, Causeway Technologies and Mitie had no input into the changes to the CSCS card-checking licence agreement, this is a decision taken entirely by CSCS. It is possible that CSCS may change their proposed commercials, in that event, we will keep you updated.
